CIID’s Summer School program started today in Costa Rica

  • CIID is a reference in world design. For the first time, it leaves Denmark to teach workshops during 3 weeks in Costa Rica.
  • Courses are taught at the Omar Dengo Foundation.

Since this Monday until Friday, April 27th, the Omar Dengo Foundation will host 15 workshops taught by the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID). It is the first time that the renowned Summer School program will be taught outside of Denmark.

In the last 12 years, CIID has worked closely with the city of Copenhagen and companies such as: Mozilla, Volvo, Philips, Intel, and Novo Nordisk. Its advisory committee includes members of Apple, Google, and the United Nations.

"CIID is a world leader in innovation founded on the vision of creating a positive impact for society through creative thinking and digital technologies," said Simona Maschi, CIID’s co-founder and director.

The registered students will learn from the hand of 25 international experts, recognized for setting the pace in innovation. Among them is Massimo Banzi, one of the creators of Arduino, leader of the Open Hardware, this allows to create devices such as automatic drone’s pilots or robot controllers.

"This is a great opportunity to study in the country. It will allow students and professionals of different profiles to expand their knowledge in the hands of internationally renowned experts with experience in companies such as IDEO; Microsoft and Google," said Vanessa Gibson, manager of  Investment Climate from CINDE.

The workshops are imparted from Monday to Friday, in English, from 9 am to 5 pm. Part of the offered courses are: Design of interactive spaces, Design of Services, Visualization of data, and Introduction to research focused on people.

Each workshop lasts one week, the person enrolled can participate in one to three courses. Each workshop costs US $ 1,250 and has a maximum capacity of 20 people.

The program has the support of several local actors that include CINDE, the private equity firm Mesoamerica, the International Design Festival (FID), and the Business Alliance for Development (AED). In addition, it is sponsored by the Omar Dengo Foundation, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the financial institution BAC and the CRUSA Foundation.
